On a weekly basis I meet individuals who find themselves burned out on social media. They express that social marketing efforts didn’t seem to make a difference on their bottom line. Whether it was their own team, or outsourced assistance, the results ended up being underwhelming (at best) OR lacked any tracking attribution to justify the investment at all. These people are business owners and leaders. Some are very successful. All are highly intelligent. They believe they’ve “already tried it” and social just doesn’t work for their business.
Why is that? Why would such powerful tools not yield powerful results?
The fact is, the marketing APPROACH is just as important as the EXECUTION.
A TERRIFIC SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING STRATEGY:
- Is simply a component of an overall digital marketing strategy. It’s a part of the process of funneling and conversion, and should be approached as such. Look for someone who understands how this all fits together (See the infographic below). A terrific Social Media Marketer will be knowledgeable not only in that vertical, but in other digital platforms as well. They will know how to create a strategy that aligns using these platforms and various methods of communication, and will understand how to TRACK results.
- It can be overwhelming if you are not familiar with the tools available and continually being educated on updates and new tools used in this space. Make sure the people who are handling your accounts are keeping up to date on algorithm changes, new apps, plug-ins, trends in content, and opportunities for growth.
- Requires tracking and analytics expertise so that you, the client, can feel confident throughout the process of campaigning. Facebook ads are a terrific example. If at any point an ad is not achieving the desired results, the ad spend can be paused to allow for assessment, editing, new ad creation and or additional split testing. After making changes the campaign and tracking process may begin again, without compromising the budget.
Bottom Line: Clarify the approach- Create the Strategy- Execute with Excellence and Track the Results. Use this standard, and you will see a return on your next marketing venture.
